Procedures: Breast Augmentation
, or augmentation mammoplasty
, is a very common procedure today, and multiple studies have shown that the procedure is quite safe. Women choose this surgery for a variety of reasons including correction of a reduction in breast volume after pregnancy, enhancement of body contour for women who feel their breasts are too small, and to create symmetry between two breasts.
Recovery time-breast augmentation over muscle 3-4 days, under muscle 5-7 days, breast lift 3-7 days, breast reduction 7-10 days.
There are many options for size and type of implants available, and all the implants we use have a silicone shell filled with saline. The choices include textured surface implants, which have a lower incidence of becoming overly firm over time; smooth surfaced implants, which are somewhat softer in the early post-op period; round versus contoured or anatomically shaped implants; and pre-filled versus those filled at surgery.
After consultation with Dr. Draper, you and she will decide the shape, size, and placement that best creates the contours you desire. She will discuss placement of the implants under the pectoralis muscle, or on top, recovery time, and what options make the most sense, and create the most aesthetic look for you. This is a very individualized process that takes into consideration your starting anatomy and your goals.
